Solicitor Complaint Report Options

Choose the right route before you complain about a solicitor. OmbudSRA helps separate firm complaints, SRA reports and Legal Ombudsman complaints.

Short answer: Most solicitor problems need a route decision before they need a long narrative. Poor service usually points toward the firm and Legal Ombudsman route. Misconduct points toward the SRA. Some matters need both.

Firm complaint

A formal complaint to the firm creates the record. It should set out the issue, dates, evidence, impact and remedy requested. For Legal Ombudsman cases, this step is normally required before escalation.

SRA report

The SRA looks at professional conduct and public protection. Dishonesty, client money, conflicts, misleading conduct and serious breach are the key areas. A report should show why the issue is regulatory, not only disappointing service.
